The 2011 Melbourne Open House program is the largest yet with 75 sites open, a return of the speaker’s series and innovative tours by bike.

MOH Ambassador Peter Maddison said that visitors would learn a lot about the city over the two days and see buildings from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

“The program includes the very best and most loved buildings from the boom time 1880's Marvelous Melbourne through to contemporary Melbourne of today.

“The majority of the sites are only open to those attending Melbourne Open House."

“Favorites from the past few years are re opening. Some of these include the newly renovated Manchester Unity, the cities first substation in Russell Place and the Donkey Wheel House. They are being joined by some amazing new additions to the program including;

* Parliament House,
* MCG and Ethihad Stadium,
* The Myer Mural Hall,
* Southbank Penthouse in the Triptych Building
* The Royal Melbourne Hospital Tunnels, and
* Bishopscourt.

“Melbourne Open House provides an unparalleled opportunity to see in, under and on top of the city. People will get to see first hand the world class architecture we have in this city,” Mr Maddison concluded.

The program can be pre ordered online and will be available from the 10th July from www.melbourneopenhouse.org and the Metlink office at Melbourne Town Hall or the Information Centre at Fed Square.

Melbourne Open House is an initiative of the Committee for Melbourne and part of the 2011 State of Design Festival, which takes place between July 20 – 31.
