The kind of design development every student dreams of is now finally a reality.

Tractor is an independent design school created by Mentally Friendly who dreamt of opening a school created for designers by designers. The pitch of it is simple – Mentally Friendly have partnered with respected design industry leaders to teach full-time studio programs and part-time industry programs offering an intense and integrated approach to learning that is practical as well as creating an environment that is akin to working at a studio full-time for five months.

The nitty gritty: courses have been streamlined into two distinct programs – Studio and Industry. The Studio program targets the individual designer who has at least one year's accredited study in their repertoire, but looking to develop an industry standard portfolio. You'll be working Monday to Friday, 9.30 to 5.30. That's equivalent to 35 studio hours and 700 hours in total for the duration of the 20 week course – just like in a commercial studio. The course will not only teach you practical skills in print and digital design but also develop your skills in strategic planning, studio management, time management, budgeting and how to interpret client briefs and present your ideas.

The Industry program is further split into two – Graphic Design and Digital Design. This program has been specifically tailored for you to work with some of the industries leading practitioners. During this 10 week programme, you’ll work with and be mentored by around 10 of the best creatives in their field. Industry programs run from 6pm to 9pm, two nights a week and never in a classroom.

The Studio program is available in Sydney in April and Melbourne in July.
